Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords included a complete article on the Bullitt's conversion from a Manual 5-Speed, Tremec TKO transmission to a BC Automotive constructed 4R70W automatic. The best time prior to the swap was a 10.90 at 125 mph. The last time at the track in Valdosta the car clicked-off a 10.17 at 134mph. It works!
Why??!!That is the most common question I'm asked about this "upgrade". Manual transmission are more fun than automatics, why in the world would you dump a perfectly good TKO and Centerforce DFX combination for a slushbox? And the answer is... significantly better performance at the track AND better driveablility on the street. It is a better mouse trap and here is why. |
